Samsung works hard, but fake phone companies work harder. This is the tale of a brand new fake S24 Ultra, a one-to-one copy that aims to mimic Samsungs latest flagship device. In the past, these counterfeit phones have often surprised me with their quality and detail. In this video, we delve into a detailed side-by-side unboxing and comparison between the real S24 Ultra and its fake counterpart, exploring just how far the makers of the fake device went in replicating Samsung's new AI features.
#### Unboxing: Real vs. Fake
Before even opening the boxes, a noticeable difference is evident: the fake phone box has a slightly grayer hue compared to the deep black of the real one. The text on the fake box is bolder and brighter, and online pc training while the real box lists IMEI 1 and IMEI 2, the fake one merely shows "II." Interestingly, the IMEI numbers on the fake box do correspond to a real Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, making it harder to distinguish based on this detail alone.
Turning the boxes over, further discrepancies emerge. The fake box has some text along the seal that reads, "Do not accept if seal is broken," a detail absent from the real box. Additionally, the fake box features some amusing spelling mistakes, a hallmark of counterfeit products.
One interesting test is weighing the boxes. Surprisingly, both the real and fake boxes weigh almost the same, indicating the counterfeiters put significant effort into replicating the real product's feel.
#### Inside the Boxes
Upon unboxing, the differences become clearer. The real S24 Ultra uses paper for its protective layers, online pc training which can be easily ripped, while the fake uses plastic. Both phones look strikingly similar at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals a bubble on the back glass of the fake phone, free registry clean indicating it hasnt been properly adhered and is slightly lifting.
Examining the contents of the boxes, the fake phone includes a USB-A to USB-C cable, whereas the real one comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. The SIM ejector pins are slightly different, but this is a minor and hard-to-detect difference. The start guides also differ, but these can vary by region, making them unreliable for authentication.
#### The Phones: Side-by-Side
Turning on both phones reveals that the fake one uses an LCD screen, while the real S24 Ultra boasts one of the best displays on the market. The bezels on the fake phone are surprisingly similar to the real one, except for the larger bottom chin. The fake phone even copies the boot screen almost exactly, but there are subtle differences.
Upon navigating to the settings, the fake phone claims to run Android 14, but clicking a few times reveals its actually running Android 7 (Nougat). The real S24 Ultra, of course, displays the proper Android 14 interface.
Interestingly, the fake phone offers software updates, albeit very small ones. This is odd, considering it's a device designed to scam people, yet it still receives updates past its initial sale.
#### Camera and AI Features
One of the main selling points of the S24 Ultra is its AI features, particularly in the camera. The fake phones camera setup appears convincing at first glance. However, by applying pressure with a spudger, it's evident that most of the lenses are fake, made of plastic, with only the main lens being glass.
Testing the cameras and microphones reveals the stark contrast between the two devices. The real S24 Ultra produces clear, high-quality images and sound, while the fake phone's performance is notably poor. Furthermore, the fake phone lacks Samsungs new AI features. For example, Samsungs real S24 Ultra can use Google Lens for image search, but the fake one cannot replicate this feature.
#### Internal Inspection
Opening up the fake S24 Ultra reveals its true nature. The camera lenses are merely decorative, attached to a plastic bracket. The internal components, including the CPU and GPU, are far inferior to the real device. The fake phone uses a MediaTek 6580 CPU and Mali-400 MP GPU, both significantly outdated compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the real S24 Ultra.
The internal layout of the fake phone is also poorly designed. The main board is held down by screws that put pressure on it, a major design flaw. The battery is a 4500mAh unit, and the sub-board includes the SIM slot and charging port, labeled SUB (not to be confused with a plea to subscribe to a YouTube channel).
#### Conclusion
While the fake S24 Ultra is impressive in its attempt to mimic the real device, it falls short in critical areas such as build quality, screen performance, and internal components. The lack of genuine AI features and poor camera performance further highlight its deficiencies.
This comparison serves as a cautionary tale: always verify the authenticity of a smartphone before purchasing, especially if the deal seems too good to be true. Counterfeit phones might look convincing, but their performance and reliability are nowhere near the level of genuine devices. Use this guide as a reference to avoid getting scammed and ensure you're investing in a legitimate, high-quality product.

In the world of smartphone repairs, it's not often you come across a device as damaged as the iPhone 11 Pro I recently tackled. The phone had sustained a severe impact, shattering the back glass, snapping the frame, and leaving a massive dent that pushed the internal components outward. The screen was ripped off, with only the earpiece flex cable and bezel remaining. This was the condition of the iPhone 11 Pro I won in an eBay auction, alongside an iPhone 7 Plus, for 80 Australian dollars, making the cost per device approximately 25 USD.
The phones arrived wrapped in paper towels, but fortunately, they were as described. The iPhone 11 Pro was in dire need of restoration, and I was determined to bring it back to life. Before diving into the repair, I want to give a shoutout to Gadget Kings PRS, a fantastic resource for phone repair tools and parts. Their support has been invaluable throughout this restoration.
I started by removing the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the device and detaching the remnants of the original display. Using a plastic pick, I separated the display bezel from the frame, which was easier than usual due to the bezel's displacement from the impact. With the bezel out of the way, I removed the two brackets covering the battery connections, disconnected the battery, and removed the bracket covering the display cables. After unplugging the remaining display cables and the earpiece flex cable, the old bezel was finally out.
With a new screen connected, I tested the iPhone 11 Pro to see if it still worked. It powered on and booted up but was locked with a passcode. The eBay listing claimed the iCloud had been turned off, but after inserting a SIM card and connecting to the internet, the phone automatically wiped. After some back-and-forth with the seller, they finally removed the device from their iCloud account.
With the phone unlocked, it was time for the major transformation. I had a new display, adhesive, housing, battery, Wi-Fi antenna, and wireless charging module ready for installation. The first step was to remove the logic board, which required disconnecting several flex cables and removing the SIM card tray. After unfastening the screws holding the rear-facing camera and charging port cable, I could lift out the logic board.
Next, I removed the face ID module, which had taken a beating. The charging port assembly came out after removing multiple screws, and the old battery, which had snapped pull tabs, was pried out with a spudger. With the phone disassembled, it was clear how much damage it had sustained. However, with the new parts ready, fix my computer it was time to reassemble.
I started by installing the new volume and power buttons, retaining clips, and find cheap computer springs. The intricate setup required patience, computer repair experts but with careful maneuvers, they were securely in place. Next, I installed the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antenna, followed by the power button flex cable, which also housed the rear microphone and LED flash.
The reassembly continued with the installation of the charging port assembly, Taptic engine, and speaker assembly. After transferring a gold contact for the face ID module, I installed the logic board, reconnected all the flex cables, and installed a new camera module. I opted for a used Apple camera to ensure the best quality.
With a new battery installed, I secured the final bracket, applied a new water-resistant seal, and connected the new display. After testing the phone to ensure everything worked, I sealed it up and removed the plastic protective film. The transformation was complete.
Despite using genuine Apple parts, the phone displayed battery and display messages indicating the components couldn't be verified as genuine. The True Tone function was disabled, and the battery health status showed it needed servicing. Face ID didn't work due to a cracked dot projector, an issue that couldn't be resolved without Apple's proprietary software.
The total cost for the phone and repairs was around 303 USD, which I consider a great deal given the effort involved. This restoration was a testament to the challenges of repairing modern smartphones and the importance of right-to-repair laws.

I recently embarked on a challenging yet rewarding project: restoring a completely destroyed iPhone 8 Plus that I got for free. The phone had been thrown at a shipping container by its previous owner, who was frustrated by a minor brightness issue in the control center. Despite the violent impact, which left the frame snapped and twisted, the camera lens and home button remained surprisingly unscathed.
Assessing the Damage
Upon receiving the phone, the first step was to check if it showed any signs of life. Connecting it to a charger yielded no immediate response, but a few minutes later, the phone vibrated, and the home button started clicking. This suggested that the display was likely dead, but the phone itself might still be functional. To test this theory, I removed the broken display and connected a new one. To my relief, the Apple logo appeared, and the phone booted to the lock screen.
Initial Preparations
With the phone working, the next step was to restore it to a pristine condition. I began by removing the logic board, followed by all smaller components. Since the phone required a full housing swap, every single screw and component needed to be transferred to the new housing. Removing the battery was particularly challenging due to the strong adhesive tabs used in the iPhone 8 Plus. Despite some difficulties, computer technician I managed to remove the battery without causing damage.
Component Transfers
I decided to replace the dock connector with a new one and removed the old one to salvage the grille pieces and the white waterproofing gasket. Next, I carefully removed the power button and volume flex cable, which were adhered to the back panel. With the smaller components out of the way, I used a heat gun to loosen the adhesive on the wireless charging coil. This step was crucial because the coil is fragile and prone to breaking during removal.
Reassembly Begins
With the old housing completely stripped, it was time to reassemble the phone in the new housing, which cost around 35 Australian dollars. Starting with the power and volume buttons, I reinstalled all the smaller parts first. I then installed the new dock connector, followed by the taptic engine, and adhered the dock connector to the frame. The loudspeaker, antenna cables, and various metal brackets were next.
Reinstalling Major Components
I moved on to the display, transferring the home button from the old screen to the new one. Since the home button is paired to each specific iPhone, replacing it would have required a costly repair from Apple. Fortunately, the original home button was intact, so I installed it in the new display along with the earpiece and front camera.
Next, I installed a new antenna at the top of the phone, replacing the broken one from the old housing. I also installed a new wireless charging coil, as the old one was damaged during removal. With all these components in place, I reinstalled the logic board, Wi-Fi antenna, and the dual cameras.
Final Touches
After ensuring all components were securely installed, I placed a new battery into the iPhone. To improve water and dust resistance, I applied a waterproof gasket around the edges of the phone. Carefully connecting the display, I sealed it down and installed the two pentalobe screws at the bottom. Finally, I added a tempered glass screen protector for added durability.
The Result
The restoration was a success. The iPhone 8 Plus, which had been in catastrophic condition, now looked and functioned like a brand-new device. It cost me a total of 139 Australian dollars to refurbish, a significant saving compared to Apple's retail price of 1149 Australian dollars for a new unit. Everything, including the home button and rear cameras, worked perfectly. The only feature that couldn't be restored was the True Tone functionality, as it requires the original display, which was not available.
This restoration project was not only cost-effective but also immensely satisfying. The journey from a shattered, non-functional phone to a fully restored iPhone 8 Plus was a testament to the value of patience and meticulous work. I determined to start an unique journey by acquiring every phony Apple item I can discover on AliExpress. The goal was to evaluate these knockoffs, starting from the least expensive to one of the most costly, and determine which, if any kind of, were actually worth the money. The results were both unusual and hilarious.
The Shopping Spree
My trip started on AliExpress, where I began by looking for an iPhone. The very first result that caught my eye was an "iPhone 15" valued at simply ₤ 92. I added it to my cart and relocated on to discover an Apple Watch. A convincing-looking "Apple Watch" was promptly included in my checklist. Next off, I needed some AirPods Maxes, and I found the "P9 Pro Max" for a mere ₤ 1. These assured "piano sound top quality" and "lengthy standby" time. I additionally came across a fake Apple Vision Pro, which set you back a shocking ₤ 271. I decided to throw in a set of phony AirPods, which were promoted as "95% brand-new." With my cart packed with dubious Apple products, all I had to do was wait on them to get here.
The Unboxing
A week later on, a suspiciously large box came to my front door, stuffed with fake Apple goodies. The components consisted of the phony Vision Pro, iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods Max, and the mystical "95% new" AirPods I decided to examine each item from most affordable to most pricey, beginning with the AirPods.
The Counterfeit AirPods.
The fake AirPods was available in product packaging that looked strangely similar to the genuine offer. Upon opening them, I found that they had the very same weight and magnetic attributes as authentic AirPods. They even attached to my iPhone with the familiar computer animation. To my surprise, the sound top quality was quite great, and they even had functioning sensors to stop songs when gotten rid of from the ears. For ₤ 18, these phony AirPods were amazingly convincing and gained a solid 9 out of 10.
The Phony Apple Watch
Next off up was the "iw9 mini," a phony Apple Watch priced at ₤ 16. This watch declared to have music, alarm, heart rate tracking, Bluetooth camera control, and also waterproofing. It looked like an Apple Watch, full with an electronic crown and magnetic charging. The interface was responsive, and it also had gestures and a video game of Flappy Bird. While the heart price display's accuracy was suspicious, the watch's total capability went over for the price. I ranked it an 8 out of 10.
The Phony AirPods Max
The fake AirPods Max, or "P9 Pro Max," were a frustration. They really felt affordable, made from hollow plastic, and were unpleasant to use. The audio top quality was abysmal, and the build top quality was so poor that I felt I might reduce through them with scissors. For an item valued higher than the phony AirPods, these were a letdown and got a 1 out of 10.
The Phony iPhone
I then unboxed the fake apple iphone, priced at around ₤ 100. The packaging was remarkably nice, and it even included accessories like a power brick, earphones, a case, and a display guard. The phone itself looked good up until I turned it on. The operating system was an inadequately reskinned version of Android, and the video camera top quality was awful. In spite of looking the component, remote pc repair & training the phone's efficiency and construct top quality were doing not have. I gave it a 6 out of 10.
The Counterfeit Apple Vision Pro
I unpacked the fake Apple Vision Pro, which had actually cost me a tremendous ₤ 271. The headset felt unpleasant, and the top quality was no place near the actual Apple Vision Pro.
Final thought
Testing these phony Apple items was a trip loaded with unforeseen twists. While some products, like the fake AirPods and Apple Watch, were surprisingly great for their rate, others, like the AirPods Max and Vision Pro, were total catastrophes.
I decided to begin on an unique journey by purchasing every phony Apple product I might discover on AliExpress. I additionally stumbled upon a phony Apple Vision Pro, which set you back a shocking ₤ 271. Next off up was the "iw9 mini," a fake Apple Watch priced at ₤ 16. While some things, like the fake AirPods and Apple Watch, were surprisingly great for their price, others, like the AirPods Max and Vision Pro, were complete calamities.

For the past four years, my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 has been my trusted companion. Equipped with a dbrand grip case, it has endured numerous falls, with one unfortunate exception a drop onto a granite threshold that shattered the curved screen, rendering it useless. This incident left me wondering if a foldable phone like the Samsung Z Flip 5 could be more durable, thanks to its dual-screen design. If the Z Flip 5 survives my rigorous durability test, it just might replace my current daily driver.
The first challenge any folding phone faces is the inherent fragility that comes with its design. The Z Flip 5, like others in its category, includes a warning list that advises against pressing too hard on the screen, folding it with objects inside, and exposing it to sand. These warnings suggest a degree of vulnerability, but I am determined to test its limits.
Comparing the Z Flip 5 to the Motorola Razr Plus, the similarities in form factor are striking. The Flip 5 is marginally shorter, with similar thickness and width. While both phones boast attractive designs, the real test lies in their ability to withstand everyday use.
Starting with the front screen, the Z Flip 5 features Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which offers decent scratch resistance. Scratches appear at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves at level 7. This is a promising start, indicating that the front screen can handle the rigors of daily pocket life.
However, the inner screen is another story. True to the historical performance of flexible displays, it scratches at a mere level 2, with deeper grooves forming at level 3. Even fingernails can leave marks on this $1,000 smartphone. Despite a pre-installed screen protector, the underlying plastic is vulnerable. Fortunately, Samsung offers a one-time free screen protector replacement, although this must be done at their repair facilities.
The outer frame, made of armor aluminum, also reveals its susceptibility to scratches. The power button, doubling as a fingerprint scanner, is well-placed but susceptible to damage. The lack of expandable storage is a significant downside for a long-term user like me. This seems like a deliberate move by Samsung to encourage more frequent upgrades, which I am not a fan of.
The phones bottom hosts a microphone, a 25-watt USB-C charging port, and a lower stereo speaker. The back panel, also made of Gorilla Glass Victus, adds to the phone's durability. The hinge, a critical component, is made of aluminum and allows the phone to fold completely flat.
For the rear cameras, Samsung uses glass protection for both the 12-megapixel ultra-wide and the standard 12-megapixel camera. These lenses are robust, complemented by a single-tone LED flash.
To test the hinges resilience, I subjected the Flip 5 to a dirt test. Despite Samsungs warning to avoid dust, the phone handled the gritty challenge reasonably well. The hinge showed some increased resistance and noise but remained functional, proving that while it should avoid dirt, it doesnt require a sterile environment.
Moving on to the screens heat resistance, the inner AMOLED display lasted 15 seconds before showing signs of damage, while the front display lasted about 10 seconds under a flame before pixels started to go black.
The fingerprint scanner initially performed well but became non-functional after additional scratches. This is a minor setback, but not a deal-breaker.
The ultimate test, however, was the bend test. Unlike its predecessor, the Flip 5s redesigned hinge and glass rear panels withstood the pressure without bending or breaking, avoiding the catastrophic failures seen in other folding phones like the Pixel Fold.
Despite the loss of the SD card slot, the Flip 5s resilience in my tests, coupled with its sophisticated design and functional durability, make it a strong contender for my next phone. The presence of battery pull tabs, similar to those in the Fold 5, adds to its appeal for long-term use.
To ensure the Flip 5 remains protected, dbrand offers a pre-production grip case that safeguards the outer screen and maintains the sleek design. For those interested in the teardown look, dbrand's skins are available for over 100 devices, including the Flip 5.
In conclusion, the Samsung Z Flip 5 passes the durability test with flying colors. Its ability to withstand scratches, dirt, old computers and bending, along with the protective gear available, makes it a viable option for those looking for a durable and stylish folding phone. If you're in the market for a new daily driver, the Z Flip 5 is worth considering.

Let's Fix Them!
Hi guys, welcome back to another Hugh Jeffreys video. Today, were tackling an exciting project: restoring 15 MacBook Airs from 2014 taht I received for free. These laptops, used in a private girls' school, were destined for the bin. At first glance, they were in various conditions, alteration business with dents, scratches, stickers, and missing keys. Some even had service tags describing theyre issues.
#### The Donation
These machines were donated by Ditmar in South Australia, who had saved about 100 of these MacBooks from the trash. He had been repairing and selling them, but these were the ones he couldnt fix or didnt have time to. He wanted to give me the remaining 29 but was unwilling to post them. So, I reached out to my mate Nathan, better known as P Civ Right, who lives in South Australia. I offered Nathan half of the MacBooks if he posted the rest to me. Nathan had already attempted to repair repair his lot, and you can check out his video on his channel.
#### Unboxing
Opening the box, the first MacBook on top prompted me to look inside. It was missing many internal components and had a handwritten note from Nathan. The note read: "Hey Hugh, I hope the laptops arrive safely and undamaged. Well, some of them are definately already damaged, so good luck. PS: I was going to send over some eucalyptus oil, but it's flammable, so here's a crude drawing instead. Keep up the great work."
#### Initial Assessment
I unpacked the rest of the MacBooks to get a closer closer look and do some testing before proceeding with any repairs. The first one booted into recovery mode but then asked for a six-digit pin. The second had a loose base, and the battery was falling out, only held by one screw. IT showed a blinking question mark when powered on. The third had a user account lock. The fourth, labeled with a damaged trackpad, booted to the setup screen, and I could get it working somewhat. THe fifth also had a damaged trackpad, kernel panicked initially, but eventually booted up. The sixth had no backlight. The seventh lacked a bottom cover, SSD, and had a blinking question mark. The eighth showed a disabled Mac screen. The ninth had water damage and a broken enter key, and the tenth had a smashed LCD. THe eleventh lacked an OS, and the twelth had a user account lock. THe thirteenth lit up but showed nothing on the display.
#### begining Repairs
I started with the first laptop. The battery didnt work, and it had a user account password. I removed the bottom bottom panel, disconnected the battery, and replaced it wtih a new one. I cleaned the dust inside, replaced the thermal paste, and reinstalled macOS, resulting in a working MacBook.
Next, I tackled the second laptop. It needed an SSD and some screws. I installed the missing components, cleaned it up, and it was good to go.
The third project was a water-damaged MacBook. I cleaned the corrosion from the logic board wtih alcohol, and while it powered on, it lacked a display output.
For the fourth laptop with no backlight, I used the LCD from the water-damaged MacBook to fix it, resulting in a functional machine.
#### Tackling More Complex Issues
One MacBook had a damaged trackpad. After cleaning the crumbs underneath and repositioning the trackpad, alteration business it worked perfectly.
Several laptops needed new SSDs. Apple uses proprietary connectors, but an adapter allows standard NVMe drives to work. Using this this adapter, I installed new SSDs and cloned the operating system onto them.
One strange MacBook showed an EFI lock after removing the SSD. THere are tools nad methods to remove these locks, but its a tricky area.
Three MacBooks booted too a pin lock screen. I couldnt get macOS installed, so I installed Linux instead. This provided a functional system, although not macOS.
#### Final Steps
The last MacBook was liquid contaminated. It booted but showed a blinking question mark. After installing a new SSD and an external drive, I confirmed it worked but wasnt detecting the internal SSD.
Before revealing the final results, I gave all the MacBooks a thorough cleaning. I removed stickers and residue with hot air and adhesive remover nad cleaned the grotty keyboards.
#### The Results
Out of the 15 MacBooks, 11 are now functional with operating systems installed nad working batteries. While cosmetically imperfect, the point was to save them from landfill. Here's the rundown: two were water-damaged, two needed further repair, repair, eight were fully functional, and three were running Linux.

Hi, welcome! Simon here, and I hope you're doing well. In this video, I'll walk you through the process of replacing the screen on a 2021 iPad 9th generation, model A2609. As you can see, the top right corner of this iPad is cracked, and we'll be replacing it with a new screen.
### Identifying the Model
To ensure you have the correct model, turn your iPad over and look at the fine print on the back. If it says A2609, you have the iPad 9th generation.
### Preparing for the Repair
First, turn off the iPad. Always wear safety goggles when dealing with broken glass to protect your eyes. We'll use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive holding the screen in place. If you don't have a heat gun, a hair dryer will work as well. Only heat the area you're working on to prevent the adhesive in other areas from hardening before you get to them.
### Removing the Broken Screen
Heat one corner of the iPad, then use a metal prying tool to start separating the glass. Keep your hand moving to distribute the heat evenly and avoid damaging internal components like the LCD screen or battery. Once the adhesive is soft enough, gently lift the glass, being careful not to break the home button cable or clean and repair registry other components.
### Detaching the Home Button
The original home button, which includes Touch ID, needs to be transferred to the new screen. Gently lift the home button cable, taking care not to damage it. Remove any adhesive holding the home button bracket in place.
### Disconnecting the Battery and LCD
Cut the flex cable of the broken screen to remove it entirely, making it easier to work on the iPad. There are four screws securing the LCDtwo are hidden under tape. Remove these screws and carefully lift the LCD, which is held by a black adhesive gel. Scrape off the adhesive to free the LCD.
### Installing the New Screen
After removing the broken screen and ensuring no glass or adhesive remains, its time to transfer the home button. Remove the spacer from the new screen and position the home button in the center. Use a small amount of super glue or epoxy to secure the bracket to the back of the screen.
### Reassembling the iPad
Reconnect the screen cables, ensuring they are properly aligned and snap them into place. Reinstall the screws and bracket that secure the LCD. clean and repair registry any dust or fingerprints off the LCD before sealing the iPad.
### Applying New Adhesive
Use a 2mm double-sided adhesive tape around the edges of the iPad to secure the new screen. This tape is stronger than the adhesive that comes with most third-party screens, ensuring the screen stays in place.
### Final Steps
Peel off any remaining protective film from the new screen. Align the screen carefully and press it into place. Pay close attention to the flex cable for the LCD to avoid pinching it. Once everything is aligned, press down firmly to ensure a good seal.
### Testing the Repair
Power on the iPad to ensure everything works. Test the home button and Touch ID, as well as the touch screen functionality. If all is well, youve successfully replaced the screen.
### Conclusion
Replacing the screen on an iPad 9th generation can be a meticulous process, but with patience and the right tools, its manageable. If you found this guide helpful, please like the video and subscribe to the channel for more repair tutorials. If you have any questions, online co feel free to comment below. Hi guys, welcome back to another Hugh Jeffreys video. Today, were tackling a well-abused iPad Pro sent in by a viewer. The back is covered in deep scratches and dents, making it look like it was dragged across concrete. The front display is shattered, barely holding on, and the home button has fallen inside, rendering it non-functional.
#### Background
The viewer, Happy Phone from Gemana, Australia, bought the iPad for fifty dollars. It had a screen that was beyond shattered. After replacing the display, they only used it for a week before dropping it on concrete, resulting in the damage we see here. This is a first-generation iPad Pro with 32GB of storage, running iOS 13.0 beta. While the iPad still somewhat functions, the fingerprint reader is disabled, and the touch input doesnt work in all areas.
#### Initial Inspection
Taking a closer look, the home buttons bracket is loose, and there seems to be a piece of paper jammed inside. As this iPad was donated, I decided to go all out and replace all the damaged parts to make it look new again. Thanks to iFixit for sponsoring this video and supplying a new display. You can get parts, tools, and guides at iFixit.com/Jeffreys.
#### Disassembly
Getting inside the iPad was easier than usual due to the poorly attached display, which I could just lift off. Inside, it was missing screws and had damage to the shields. The old adhesive wasnt properly cleaned off, explaining why the display didnt hold.
Next, I removed the front display, taking out the two screws holding its bracket and small business disconnecting its flex cables. After removing any remaining glass around the perimeter, I unfastened all screws on the bracket over the logic board. There was also a missing screw here, requiring me to find replacements later.
After disconnecting the battery, I tackled the speaker assembly, which was held in with incredibly strong adhesive and several cables. It required careful prying to avoid damage. Following this, I removed the headphone jack to clear the path for the speaker assembly.
#### Logic Board and Battery
Removing the logic board was challenging due to the adhesive holding it down. I unplugged all connecting cables, taking extra care around the soldered charging port and upper flex cable. The battery was similarly glued down, requiring a significant amount of alcohol to break down the adhesive.
#### The Setback
Everything was going according to plan until I encountered the smart connector port. Despite being held in with a bracket, it was glued in beyond anything Id seen. No method I tried could dislodge it, and eventually, the cable broke off. This halted the project for 12 months until I could find cheap computer a replacement. Many months later, I found one on iFixit, allowing the project to continue.
#### Continuing the Restoration
Proceeding with the restoration, I removed the remaining components from the old frame, including the speakers, antenna, and various buttons. The magnets used for Apple cases were especially tough to remove due to their strong adhesive and hard-to-reach placement.
Reassembling began with installing the speaker grilles in each corner, followed by the antenna and volume buttons. I glued the microphone back into position before installing the power button and its flex cable, followed by the camera and LED flash.
The next step was gluing all the magnets back into the new casing. To ensure correct alignment, I attached an Apple Smart Cover case before the glue dried. With the magnets in place, I installed the retaining brackets.
#### Final Assembly
The logic board was installed next, hoping the iPad would still function after over a year without power. I then fitted the new battery, connecting the smart connector and securing it with screws. The headphone jack, front-facing camera, and upper speakers were reinstalled, followed by the charging port and bottom speakers.
After replacing the missing screws with those harvested from a donor iPad mini, I attached the adhesive for the new display panel. Salvaging the old home button, I installed it into the new display, ensuring it was secured against the glass to prevent it from falling inside the iPad again.
#### Testing and Conclusion
With the new display connected, it was time to test the iPad. It powered on, and everything appeared to be working. I cleaned the inside with a microfiber cloth and removed all protective films before pressing the display firmly into place. After letting the adhesive set for a few hours, I removed the final protective film, revealing a fully restored iPad Pro.
This restoration was one of the most involved tech projects Ive undertaken. The extraordinary amount of adhesive made it a nightmare to repair. Using a case to prevent scratches or hide them is much easier than attempting such a repair strategy. Despite the difficulties, Im happy with the result.
